about Kay Gross
Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never let you down. Frank Lloyd Wright
I have always been awed by all of God's creation. I see His handiwork in the forests, streams and animals that Colorado and New Mexico are so well known for. I grew up in the small mountain town of Nederland and spent my childhood observing and studying the natural world around me. Later, my love of birds inspired me to recreate these delightful feathered creatures in watercolor, create fused glass birds, and my unique "steam punk" birds using antique cameras, binoculars and other old items.
My other love is teaching art to all ages. After achieving my Masters in Education from Regis University, with an art endorsement, I taught elementary school for 22 years and now teach from my New Mexico home - FireForge Art Studio. My passion to pass along what I have learned through the years is what I love most and I try to teach in a compassionate and positive manner. I believe that the most important thing we take away from an art class is not the final artwork but rather the journey we took during the process.
My husband Doug and I began creating unique contemporary sculpture using steel and glass 15 years ago. We work side by side and collaborate on each piece from the design process through the final creation. Our award winning work has been shown at Artistica Gallery, Element at Larimer Square in Denver, the International Loveland Sculpture in the Park show, The Arvada Center Fine Art Market, The Pace Center in Parker, The Lone Tree Arts Center, and now The Hood in Las Cruces, NM. We have been featured in Glass Craftsman Magazine and 5280: The Denver Magazine. You can visit our work at on Facebook and Instagram. Commissions are always welcome!
